Nails & Nail Aid

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Glammies I listened to what you guys want to see on Glam 2 Go. One of the top things to see more of is (drum roll please)........ NAILS! Now this is hard for me since I'm a makeup artist/esthetician and tend to keep my nails short. I don't do acrylic since it kills my nails and gel is not bad but I don't have the time for the upkeep and I don't want to spend the money on it. So............I'm in the process of growing my nails and getting them strong to start my mission of nail art and swatching. I'm trying this products I found yesterday name Nail Aid.  It's a dupe for Sally Hansen 4 n 1 and it cost a less (Nail Aid $3.89 and Sally Hansen $7.36) Review to come soon on it.

Have anyone of you heard of this, tried it, or do you have any nail tricks to share to get my nails on point?

Viviscal Final Review

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

The trial with Viviscal has come to an end. Booooooo!!! But no wait no Booooo since it went very well and I'm going back for more. Why you ask and does it REALLY work? Well, I'm going back cause it really does work and I'm so happy with the results. On my previous review I talked about my hair loss and thinning after having my baby Stormy and after taking this vitamin for 3 months I must say what a difference. Here are studies break downs from Viviscal.

Before starting I cut about 4-5 inches of hair. I was left with my hair just touching the top of my back. Now my hair is at my shoulders and feeling healthy, soft, and shiny. I also noticed that my nails grew faster, longer, and stronger. My skin hasn't looked this clear and healthy in years and I have brows again!!

Alright here is the proof. Before and after pics below.

Before

After

The difference from both the pics are in the before my hair was blown out and after is my natural curly hair.
As you can see from the pictures my hair has grown in and the front of my hairline is all new growth. That's where you see the little curls in front.

Overall my experience was great and I will be making an order very soon. Especially since they have this great deal going on their site. Buy 2 get 1 free so you're paying $99.99 for a 3 month supply.

Now I want to hear from my Glammies if you have tried it and your feedback. Let's chat!

*The company Viviscal provided me and 24 other bloggers with 3 month supply of product for an honest review. I was not paid for this review.

Review on Nume Flat Iron

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Image 3
I must admit that sometime ago I received this Nume flat iron to try out and give a review on and have been so busy with life, business, and being pregnant that I hadn't gotten a chance to do it. I apologize for the delay and I'm now getting time to do this much needed and deserved review.

As most of you may know, I have naturally coiled curly hair and most of the time I wear it naturally. But I do love mixing it up and getting my hair blown out. I like to wear it blown out mostly in the cold weather months since I don't have to worry about any frizz. That being said, when I received this flat iron I was in between hairstylists (and still am) and was in need of a serious trim. So I waited until I went back home (Chicago) to get my hair trimmed with my amazing hairstylist/aunt.

A few weeks before I received this Vintage Nume Flat Iron, my Chi that I had for almost 5 years MELTED. Yes, you read that right, it MELTED. I don't know what happened or how it happened but it did and I'm glad I caught it before it really got ugly. But back to the real flat iron and super star. This beauty is made of 100% ceramic iron that helps give shine and keeps moisture in the hair's cuticle. It has a temp control dial and heats up in a few seconds so no need to wait around to do your hair. The iron design is curved at the edges to use as a curling iron too. And it comes with a 3-year warranty. How awesome is that?

Let's get down to the real important stuff like how it worked on this SUPER noodle head Glammie. Well, after blow drying my hair and having no products in it, I sectioned my hair and got started. Now I have a lot of hair but it's thin so it took about 15-20 minutes to do it. That might sound like a lot of work to some folks but once I flat iron and style, I won't have to use the iron again for a few days. Most of the time I have to do 1 section of hair twice but with Nume I only had to do the section once. My hair was left so silky smooth and with no flyaways which I hate!

At the time I was working at Sephora and everyone at work thought I had permed my hair or had done Kertain. NOPE it was all done with the Nume Vintage iron that I have now had for a few months and love. I have used it on some clients and they have purchased their own and have thanked me for introducing them to Nume. I highly recommend the Nume Vintage to all my Glammies.

The Vintage is available in three colors purple, pink, and black. $145 Nume was nice enough to share a SURPRISE discount code with my Glammies. Enjoy!

Maybelline Master Drama Liner Pencil Review

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

Maybelline Master Drama Liner

This has been out for a little bit of time but just now getting around to trying it and reviewing it. Maybelline came out with these liners that are suppose to be a creamy pencil that has 24 hour staying power and bold in color. And it is just that. I purchased the Bold Brown since they were out of the black plus I need to try a new brown since I don't like wearing black ALL THE TIME. It's a really pretty deep brown with a bit of sparkle and glides on so easy.

I wore the liner with no eye primer on top and bottom lid to really test it out. After a long day of running errands with Peanut, it stayed on with no problems and no smudging. Exactly what Maybelline said. It comes in 6 colors and available from $5.99 and up.

The Manly Minute: A Better Shave

Sunday, August 21, 2011

To switch things up a bit, I'm letting my hubby Gabriel (a.k.a Peanut) write up a blog post. Today he'll be reviewing a couple of different shaving products he has recently tried.

Shaving, is probably the most common male grooming practice. Unless you're this guy. When I first started shaving as a teenager, I used  the big 'ol can of Barbasol and a disposable Bic razor. Later on I "moved up" to shaving gels like Gillette's and razors with 3 and 4 blades (like the Gillette Fusion). The typical guy uses these for his shaving needs, and they get the job done but there is a better way.

Although many men won't admit it, many of us guys are becoming more concious of our appearance and will buy purchase and use higher-end products for grooming. This movement has led to companies like the Art of Shaving, which aims to give you "The Perfect Shave" by changing the way men approach the act of shaving. The Art of Shaving offers everything you need from razors and brushes to shaving oils, creams and skin care products. The best way to try out their product line is to pick up one of their shaving kits. The one I tried out was the Starter Kit ($25) which includes Pre-Shave Oil, shaving cream, a Badger Shaving Brush and an After Shave Balm.

Shaving with this kit is a process, all four items being components to a super-close shave that leaves your face silky soft. It begins with the Pre-Shave Oil, meant to soften the hair follicles. Next apply the shaving cream with the brush, which lifts up the hair follicles for a closer shave. The final step is to apply the After Shave Balm and you're good to go.

Using the Art of Shaving kit manages to turn a mundane grooming activity into something of a luxurious experience, similar to getting a shave at an old-school barber shop. All that's missing is the hot towel treatment. The process does prove to be very effective, with the Pre-Shave Oil and badger hair brush setting your face up for the closest possible shave. The end result is an incredibly close shave and fully moisturized skin. The process does have some minor drawbacks in my opinion. For one, it's a bit more time consuming than just slapping on some shave gel and putting razor to face. The time spent is totally worth it, but still you have to allot a few extra minutes to go through all the steps. The other downside is that the Pre-Shave Oil, while an effective pre-treatment, tends to stick to the razor making it more difficult to rinse off. That said, these are just minor quibbles to what amounts to a very nice line of shaving and skin care products.

As a comparison, I tried the Jack Black Beard Lube. I had never heard of the Jack Black line of products, and was disappointed when I found out there was no relation to this Jack Black. Despite that fact, the product is still pretty legit. The Beard Lube combines pre-shave oil, shaving cream, and an after shave facial skin treatment all in one bottle.

While Beard Lube is very similar to the Art of Shaving kit, it has a couple of advantages over it. For one, it's an all-in-one product, so it cuts down on application and shaving time. Secondly it goes on clear, so you can better see your face as you shave. Finally, it's not as thick as the Art of Shaving oil and shave cream combination so you spend less time rinsing off your razor. The one downside I found with Beard Lube is that one of the ingredients in it has some sort of warming effect, so it was a little off-putting at first but I got used to it later on. Outside of that it's a very nice product which leaves your skin nice and smooth. It takes care all of your shaving needs in just one bottle and application.

I found both of these products to be great ways to enhance your shaving experience as well as look and feel your best.

YBF? Your Best Face Skin Care Review

Monday, August 1, 2011

I received this media kit some weeks ago from YBF (Your Best Face). They were so kind to send over some of their products and samples for me to try out. Let me say that their packaging was so impressive and the amount of products that was sent was amazing. They really wanted me to try out their line and get a real feel for it. It's taken me some weeks since I like to take my time to try something and really get a feel for it as well as seeing the results. Here is more info about the creators and company.

After 4 weeks of trying out Correct Eye Cream (best seller), Defend Face Care, and Quench Lip Treatment (not including sample size items that were sent). I have noticed a difference on the hydration around my eyes, I LOVE Defend Face Cream, and the Lip Treatment is nice and moisturizing. Let me break down a bit about each product.

Correct Eye Cream
  • Helps with puffiness, dark circles, and lines
  • Peptides, olive leaf extract, and vitamin E & B5
  • 30 year-old eyes started looking like they were in their 20's again. Love it!
  • $150
Defend Face Care
  • Great for combo skin
  • Wrinkle prevention
  • Mattifer (used as a primer on a 80 degree day and worked great)
  • $120
Quench Lip Treatment
  • Velvet soft lip balm
  • Cupuacu butter, oils, and vitamins
  • Great to layer and moisturize lips
  • $15
I think this is a skin care line that will have a successful future and I look forward to trying more items. Thanks Darrell & Kimberly for all your hard work and dedication on such an amazing line.

Clarisonic Deep Pore Cleansing Brush Head Review

Friday, July 22, 2011

I know you have heard me talking and raving about this machine for over a year now. I can't live without this baby and it has changed my skin and life for the better. I've been suffering from adult acne since I was 23 and since using this little miracle machine, my skin has done a 180. Since purchasing my Clarisonic Mia, I've been using the normal skin brush for sometime and then heard that Clarisonic had listen to us and came out with a new brush head. This Deep Pore Cleansing Brush helps cleanse oily skin, large pores, and those hard to reach areas.

Now since I'm pregos (pregnant) and my skin is going through some hormones issues on top of adult acne. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to try this new brush head out. First let me share my routine so you can get a better idea of how I use my Clarisonic Mia. I use Philosophy Purity to cleanse everyday and 2-3x a week I use Philosophy Microdelievery to exfoliate. After receiving and trying the new deep pore cleansing brush with my routine, my skin looks better and clearer then it has the last 5 months (prego). My skin is soft, clean feeling, and looks a lot brighter (not rocking the prego glow yet). I would give it a A++ and would recommend to anyone that has oily skin or just want more of a deep cleansing on their skin. $25 each or 2 for $40 and available at Sephora (store and website), Clarisonic, Skinstore.com (20% off everything now w/ code FRESH20), and Nordstrom.

Need False Eye Lash Application Advice?

Monday, May 23, 2011

Having issues with applying lashes? Here is some advice I gave someone on @sephora FB page
An easy way to apply lashes is lots or practice, patience and tweezers. Before you apply you have to size the lashes against your eyes to make sure they fit and if they need a bit of cutting then cut on the ends (outer corners). Take your lashes and apply the glue on the band of the lashes and add a little bit extra on the corners. That helps with any lifting of the lashes. Once glue is on then let dry for about 30 seconds or so till it get's tacky you can apply w/ your fingers or tweezers. I like to apply outer corners first or you can also apply starting in the middle of your eye and then pressing gently right above your natural lashes. Once you have applied and happy with the placement then you're done and Congrats! Hopefully that helps!!

Here are some lashes I would recommend and lash glues.

Makeup Forever New Aqua Liners

MAKE UP FOR EVER

I was contact by Makeup Forever which is one of my fav lines with the opportunity to try they're new line of Aqua Liners waterproof liquid liner available in 15 colors. I was so excited since I love liquid liner and have been using it for (our secret) 20 years now. They were kind enough to send me 3 liners in 9 Iridescent Fuchsia, 10 Iridescent Red, and 4 Diamond Multicolor Black.

Now when they said waterproof they meant it! Let me tell you that I wore these on my hand for 7 hours and washed my hands many times without them budging (hubby was even impressed). Once I used some hand sanitizer (alcohol based of course) then it rubbed off. The colors are vibrant and the liner is easy to apply with a firm tip applicator, and at $23 available at Sephora and Makeup Forever Boutique & Sephora Soho Studio. I would rate these a A+. Below are swatches of the 3 liner and self portrait of myself with 9 Iridescent Fuchsia.

Hairy Wednesday w/ Silk Elements Mixed Silk Nourishing Deep Conditioner

A product thumbnail of Silk Elements Mixed Silk Nourishing Deep Conditioner

As some of my Glammies may know by now that I'm a natural girl w/ naturally coil curly hair. But the kool thing is I can wear my hair from curly to silky straight w/ blow drying and flat iron. I must say that I have the best of both worlds. With wearing my hair curly I need to deep condition my hair 1x a week to keep my curls soft, moisturized, hydrated.

I'm always on a search for the next new best products for my curly hair and was doing my normal online shopping and came across this deep conditioner from Silk Elements. The reviews that were given online sounded really good and decided at $5.99 on sale w/ my Sally's card was not bad to try it out.

Directions say to leave on for 3 minutes but I left mine for 20 minutes since I was working while deep condition. I rinsed and can feel the difference and once I walked out the shower, I can see the difference. It left my hair so soft and my curls were a bit loose. Through out the few days my hair still felt soft and curls were nice and healthy looking. A+

  • hydrates & detangles
  • Leaves curls bouncy
  • Intensive moisture

Silk Elements Mixed Silk Nourishing Deep Conditioner is specially formulated to leave curls bouncy, vibrant, and healthy-looking! An indulgent, intensive moisture treatment that restores hair while it hydrates and detangles. Curls are left smooth, silky, and shiny.

Mani Tuesday w/ Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Collide-o-Scope

Collide-o-Scope

I know these have been talked about like crazy on blogs, youtube, and chat rooms but I still wanted to share with my Glammies my short review. I have tried a few of these stick on nail polish from Sally Hansen, Incoco, and Avon. From the 3 of those I prefer Sally Hansen & Incoco (available at a mall near you and Walgreens) Above is a picture of Collide-o-Scope right after I applied it. It took me about 10 minutes in total and super easy to apply. I received so many questions about my nails and compliments.

After 6 days of having these on you can see that there is barely any wear on my nails. I have 2 chips on the tip of my nail on both index fingers and that's it. I normally chip by the 2 day at least with normal polish. Below is another color I have tried and really enjoyed Booty Camp I really like these and highly recommend these. Price range from $7.60-$10.99. A+++

Review Thursday w/ Olay Advanced Cleansing System

Thursday, February 17, 2011

When I heard about the new Olay Advanced Cleansing System I knew I had to have it and review it. I especially wanted to try it since I own a Clarisonic Mia and wanted to see how the 2 compare. Now Olay is comparing their new system to others and this is in their own words " is as effective as a system sold by skin professionals for nearly $200".*System with normal/dry cleanser. I purchased my system on Drugstore.com and got a great deal on it $23.99 (must be a new account to receive this price).

On first view I thought it was fairly small and reminded me of another system out there by DDF  (it's exactly the same $95). It came with batteries and a sample size of Olay Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser. It was really tough to open the bottom part where the batteries go and had to get my BF Peanut to open it for me. The system has 2 speeds and an on/off button. I attached the brush and did notice that it was a bit flimsy.

It being waterproof I took it to the test and tried it out in the shower. I tried the first speed and felt like I needed a bit more power. I switched over to the higher speed and it felt better but again it felt like the brush would come off and it did. I applied it back and processed to finish my cleansing.

After using it for 5 days I'm not loving it. The brush fell off 2 times and I enjoyed the cleanser better then the system. In my opinion I just didn't care for it and was really hope it would be better then it was. I think for the price it does it's job but the brush needs to updated to stay in place. I also wish the brush was anti-bacteria like the Clarisonic. So in my honest opinion as always I would give it a C-.

Sephora Skin Care Review Thursday

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Supreme Cleansing FoamInstant Moisturizer
Flawless Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15Instant Depuffing Roll-On Gel
Express Cleansing WipesInstant Refreshing Toner

Sephora has a new skin care line and it FANTASTIC! I got a sample of the Instant Moisturizer in a holiday gift bag and gave it a week test drive to see how it worked. I was really surprised and it being the first time I tried Sephora skin care line was truly impressed.

After trying the moisturizer I decided to try the Supreme Cleansing Foam Cleanser, Flawless Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15 ,  Instant Depuffing Roll-On Gel, Express Cleansing Wipes, and Instant Refreshing Toner. After 2 weeks of trying all these items, they have become regulars in my skin care routine. I use the Instant Depuffing Roll On Gel every morning and does exactly what it says. Takes those morning puffy eyes away and helps brighten & hydrate. The wipes & cleansing foam takes all my makeup off and tones my skin. But since I really like to tone my skin and to make sure all trace of makeup is off I use the refreshing toner. Below is more info provided by Sephora.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:

- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan

What else you need to know:
HydroSenn+ is a plant-derived ingredient that leaves skin feeling soft and luxuriously comfortable. This moisturizer is ideal of all skin types, non-comedogenic, and formulated without mineral oil.

For my Glammies that were curious about this line I do recommend it and give it an A+.

Review on Pink Glitter Boutique

Thursday, December 16, 2010

One Saturday in October I was talking to my bestie, and she was telling me about being at a gig (she's a mua & hairstylist) and a young lady having a huge brush roll (a roll that holds all makeup brushes). We talked about how we would love to have a brush roll that's able to hold all our brushes and not have to carry around 3-4 at a time. After our intense discussion about brush rolls (lol), I told her that I would research and see if I can find one.

Now, I love shopping online and one day I was searching to see if I can find anything new on esty.com and came across a cute boutique name Pink Glitter Boutique. Owner and creator Lindsay makes everything herself, a few things she makes are cosmetic bags, id wallets, and MAKEUP BRUSH ROLLS. I was so excited when I saw the rolls and the fabric were super cute. So, I decided to contact her and see if she was able to make me a custom order. Lindsay was very quick with her reply and informed me that she would be able to work with me and make a custom brush roll for me. I chose a pin up girl fabric that I fell in love with and chose a xxl size to be able to hold all my many brushes. Lindsay got to working on my order.

Lindsay is a fast worker and before the end of the week she was done with my custom order. I received it  and the packaging was so cute in pink tissue paper and a pink ribbon. I was able to fit 3 sets of brushes that include Royal & Langnickel, ELF Studio Line, and Urban Decay. I loved it so much that I had one custom made for the bestie's bday and she also fell in love with it as I did. Check out the picture below of my CUTE makeup brush roll.

Review On Mario Badescu

Thursday, December 2, 2010

Drying LotionThe Drying Lotion is a fast acting, effective acne spot treatment. Formulated with salicylic acid, calamine and other quick-drying ingredients, this product will shrink ugly whiteheads virtually overnight while you sleep. While other acne spot treatments can irritate and dry delicate or sensitive skin, this product is safe and effective for all skin types.
INGREDIENTS: Isopropyl Alcohol, Deionized Water (Aqua), Calamine, Camphor, Colloidal Sulfur, Salicylic Acid,Glycerine, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Talc
For years I would see this on the back pages of several magazines. Dealing with adult acne myself and had tried almost everything I decided to give it a try. I purchased the drying lotion and told my son (he's 17 y.o and dealing with acne) that I had something new that might work for the both of us. First thing I did without reading was shake it. After turning the bottle around and reading it, I felt like a big dummy. It's reads in the back "Do not shake". lol I should have followed what they taught me in school and "follow directions".

After prepping my skin for my beauty sleep. Cleanse w/ Clarisonic using Juice Beauty or Philosophy Purity, Toner from Mario Badescu Special Cleansing Lotion C, and RareMinerals Purely Nourishing Facial Moisturizer. I followed the directions on the back (yes, I read) and applied on my "problem areas".

By the next morning those "problems areas" had dried out and gone down in size and that night I reapplied and by the night morning they were gone. GONE! The sulfur and salicylic acid help to kill the bacteria and dry the acne. The calamine helps soothe the skin from any irritation & redness, plus the camphor will help with any inflammation. This is a product line that will be in my skin care routine for a looong time! LOVE IT!!! Below are a few other products I can't live without from Mario Badescu.
